We Are Back!

The students have been back in school for just over a week now. It is great to have that energy back in the classroom. The past week was a busy one. Everyone knows how to wash their hands properly now, thanks to the Saudi government. We also had a pep rally for the boys headed to the Eastern Province for a volleyball tournament. Then the week ended with a fire drill with evacuation and Open House!

I will soon post pictures and video of the children creating their Roller Coasters for science. Let me just say our classroom was an active, loud, messy and fun place to be this afternoon!

Virtual School- LV

I like virtual school.
It is so much fun.
I like my homework.

I like the one where you can make shapes.
I learned a lot and it was fun. I liked it when there were games on my computer.

It is not hard at all. I was happiest about my spelling test. I hope I get a trophy. LV

Fun

I like virtual school because computer work is fun. I like to see what my classmates read for daily reading. I learn to type and spell. It is fun but I still want to go to school.

Virtual School Assignments

This week we are in our second week of Virtual School. All of the schools in Saudi Arabia were closed by a Royal Decree until Oct 10th for upper grades and Oct 17 for the lower grades.
All children from our class have been continuing their learning through the use of a Virtual School, they are going to school via the computer and completing the work that I have given them.

The children are going to log-on to the blog from home and write what they think of being in Virtual School for two weeks. I look forward to seeing what they have to say.

Virtual School

We are ready to start Virtual School on Saturday.

At this point we are requiring that all students sign in to BlackBoard or Moodle once a day. We will contact parents by e-mail to make sure you have the passwords and usernames for your child.

I have been real busy this week creating lessons that are very very similar to the ones that we will have in the classroom. I am even learning a lot of new things myself as this is all new to me. I am hoping that the children who are assigned to Mrs. Lasater's class will not get any hard copies from me. I am working on scanning documents or putting them into an on-line form. I

For my wonderful kids, I have even included some games for you to play this week since we will not have Math Games or Language Games while you are in Virtual School.

Introducation

Welcome to our blog!

This blog has been created to serve as a link between home and school for the 1st Grade students at Yanbu International School (YIS). There are 2 classrooms of 1st grade taught by two american teachers. We are educating the leaders of tomorrow, so lets make it the best we possibly we can!

Yanbu is located about 3 hours north of Jeddah on the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. It has a sister city in the eastern providence, Jubail.

Eid Mubarak and Saudi National Day.

Welcome Eid! Next week school is on vacation for the Eid Holiday. We will also be having Saudi National Day while we are on vacation.

The highlight of our year so far has been building a bed and chair for Rolly and Carson, our class mascots. We are also really really really enjoying our FOSS Science Unit entitled Balance and Motion. Many of the students have taken materials home to demonstrate to their parents how to balance a pencil on its point.

In Social Studies we will be building a community. We have brainstormed what we need to have in a community and have come up with a very diverse list! I can not wait to see where this project takes us.

Welcome Family and Friends

I have created this Blog in order to keep parents up to date on what is happening in the classroom. We are really enjoying everything that we have done this year! Please check back often to see what we are doing. Also the students will be typing some of their thoughts on what they are doing at school.
